The final volume in a trilogy of monographs devoted to the petrology of primary diamond-bearing rocks. The principal objective is to present a revised terminology for primary diamond-bearing rocks. Much of the text is devoted to summarizing all that is known of the mineralogy and geochemistry of ora. Kimberlite is the name given to a silica-poor and magnesium-rich extrusive igneous rock (e.g., a volcanic rock) that contains major amounts of olivine, often serpentinized. It is a highly variable mixture of melt, minerals crystallizing from the melt, and foreign crystals and rock pieces. Kimberlite may occur in the field as dikes or pipes that crystallize near but below the surface.
Kimberlites are rare, enigmatic, low-volume igneous rocks. They are highly enriched in magnesium, volatiles (CO 2 and H 2 O) and incompatible trace elements and are thought to be the most deeply derived (> km) magmatic rocks on Earth. Kimberlites occur in ancient and thick continental lithosphere, forming intrusive sheets and composite pipes, commonly in clusters. Kimberlite pipes: How they form. As mentioned, kimberlite pipes are believed to have been formed by deep-source volcanic eruptions. Jeffrey Post, a diamond expert at the Smithsonian, has described. For over a century, mineral prospectors have known that a rock known as kimberlite often contains diamonds. Find kimberlite, and you’ve got a much better chance at finding : Tim De Chant.

Kimberlite, also called blue ground, a dark-coloured, heavy, Kimberlites book altered and brecciated (fragmented), intrusive igneous rock that contains diamonds in its rock matrix. It has a porphyritic texture, with large, often rounded crystals (phenocrysts) surrounded by a fine-grained matrix (groundmass).
It is a mica peridotite, and its most abundant mineral constituent is olivine. the Kimberlites, a fun-loving five member band, have been doing just that for their audiences for well over a decade. Their infectious melodies warm the rooms of a variety of venues and keep dance floors abuzz, combining strong vocal harmonies and unique instrumentation into a party driving mix of rocking celtic-cajun-zydeco.

We proudly take our old family Toyota truck, a few five gallon buckets, and a pile of hand tools, pick axes, and shovels to the beautiful Redfeather Lakes Mining District where diamond bearing Kimberlite pipes have been discovered. Kimberlite definition is - an agglomerate biotite-peridotite that occurs in pipes especially in southern Africa and that often contains diamonds.

WOODZICK, M.E. McCALLUM. What are Kimberlites. Unlike most of the surface rocks in Kansas, which are sedimentary in origin, kimberlite is an igneous rock, formed from the cooling of molten magma.
Igneous rocks are extremely rare in Kansas. Kimberlite is composed of at least 35% olivine, together with other minerals such as mica, serpentine, and calcite (Jackson, ). Physics and Chemistry of the Earth and a cluster analysis technique has been used to compare the chemistry of the autoliths with kimberlites and other alkaline ultramafic rocks associated in space and time.
The major element chemistry of the autoliths does not indicate any unique composition but groups with two of the four kimberlite.
